New Civic Arena and Events Centre
Construction on the new Civic Arena and Events Centre started in the fall of 2009 and is expected to be complete in December, 2010. The facility has received both provincial and federal funding in the amount of $14 million and has been generously supported with local contributions adding up to more than $7 million. The new facility will provide total event-level occupancy of 3,664 and will feature a full service lounge overlooking the ice surface, 8 large dressing rooms, a recessed ice surface, a 2 lane recessed and rubberized walking track and will make use of state of the art energy efficiency design and operating systems, including large glazed windows for use of natural light.

Energy Training Institute
Construction on the new 40,000 square foot Energy Training Institute is to begin in the spring of 2010 and is expected to be complete in March of 2011. The facility will house 10 classrooms, 2 laboratories and a large indoor shop. The Energy Training Institute was established as a unique business division of Southeast Regional College, in an effort to keep pace with the ever expanding training needs of the energy industry. To meet this demand, ETI provides a diverse variety of technical, environmental, and safety-related courses. The new facility is expected to train in excess of 6,000 oilfield workers from Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the northern United States per year.

Boundary Dam Clean Coal Demonstration Project
SaskPower is currently examining the feasibility of creating the worlds first near-zero emissions pulverized clean coal plant. It will be designed to capture at least 90% of the CO2 produced. This plant would allow the corporation to continue taking advantage of the province’s 300-year supply of minable lignite coal, meet or better all Canadian environmental regulations and capture greenhouse gas emissions. The potential project would involve the design and development of a $1.4 billion, 300 megawatt clean coal plant that would capture about 8,000 tonnes of CO2 per day. The design team is also exploring options to store the emissions underground, including the potential for enhanced oil recovery. A final decision is expected in December, 2010.
